Jeff and the other Diveheart students went through extensive empathy training and task loading designed to build confidence and sensitivities when working with individuals with disabilities. Diveheart is a non-profit organization founded in Chicago 2001. Diveheart’s primary mission is to offer and support educational SCUBA diving and snorkeling programs – available to any child, adult or veteran with a disability – with the intention of providing both physical and psychological therapeutic value to each person. In 2009 Adventure Dive & Travel started the Springfield Diveheart Chapter to serve the local community. Our skilled and experienced training staff has three HSA certified Instructors and nine HSA certified Divemasters, with a total of over a hundred years of diving experience.

The underwater world is a magical place for everyone, including people with disabilities. At Adventure Dive & Travel we have developed an Adaptive Diving Program that can teach almost anyone with disabilities to safely scuba dive. Thanks to the wonder of the water column, the oceans and lakes of the world become the forgiving weightless environment of outer space, giving perfect buoyancy to a child or adult who would otherwise struggle on land. The physical, emotional and social aspects of scuba diving are a benefit to anyone who has learned to venture beneath the waves, regardless of a disability.
